Hello there, my name is Donna Wolff and I lost my son Zebulun, March 1, 2009, he was 18 years old and a senior at Lutheran High Northeast. He was captain of the football team, participated in basketball, track, band, speech and the school plays. He suffered from anxiety his entire life and had four previous attempts before his final act of taking his own life. I had him seeing a counselor, and had him on medication for his borderline schizophrenia and manic depressive episodes, but it wasn’t enough to save his life. Since losing my son I have helped to establish and am the President of the Northeast NE Suicide Prevention Coalition, our official non-profit organization and facilitate the Survivors of Suicide Support Group in Norfolk and we have just started a group in Columbus, NE.
It is my mission work now to do all that I can to educate our community about depression and awareness and prevention of suicide. I lost a 25 year marriage after my ex-husband and I found our son in our home. I made sure to get counseling and EMDR treatments after losing my son and strongly believe you HAVE to reach out for help to survive this tragedy. You are NOT alone and there are plenty of wonderful people to help you heal. I have made sure to make a positive out of this horrific life experience and feel that others can have grief growth also from sharing their stories after they have healed from losing their loved one to suicide.
